At August 30th, 1953 the U.N army commander fixed the North Limit Line (NLL), the line which limited patrol activities of the U.N navy or air force at Eastern and Western Sea. The Yeon-pyeong naval battle occurred after the North Korean patrol ships crossed the Western sea North Limit Line (NLL) and stayed for a long term and made preemptive attacks to the Korean navy high speed boat that were sent out to force them out at June 15th, 1999. The West sea battle broke out as the North Korean patrol ships crossed the North Limit Line (NLL) at June 29th, 2002 and made surprise bombing attacks to the Korean navy as the Korean navy warned them to withdraw to the north.
