Features of Fishes in mid and down stream of Imjin
river |
 |
|
| |
| Imjin
river has lots of flood. |
The major cause of it is
that Imjin river is made up with Hantan river, Yonpyoungcheon,
Gomitancheon, Yeokgokcheon, Pocheoncheon, Sincheon,
and many other rivers and streams.
Therefore, during flood, water from those streams
and rivers are quickly joined to Imjin river and
the water lever of Imjin river increases sharply;
it overflows.
Since counter-plan for flood in Korea is focused
on Han river where many people are living together,
Imjin river has been damaged relatively hard by
floods.
If we look into the cause, we can see that because
Han river which is big due to its location where
two rivers meet each other flows to the sea easily
and it¡¯s relatively hard to flows to the sea for
Imjin river; the lingering time in downstream for
Imjn river makes the damage of flood in mid and
upper stream bigger.
Also, since yellow sea which goes to Imjin river
has the much difference between the rise and fall
of the tide, if water level of the river during
fool tide increases, sea water flows backward and
it damages more.
Due to those flow of water and because it flows
along the plain, Imjin river runs slowly from mid-stream.
Therefore, because riverbed of Imjin river from
mid stream to upper stream is plain it¡¯s mostly
made with sand, from upper stream to river-mouth
it¡¯s made up with mud flat, and there are a lot
of fishes fitting in those environment . |

Not only flood of the mouth of
Imjin river but that of most of the mouth of rivers
financially damages civilized society temporarily,
but in the long run it carries plenty of organics
to field and makes field rich.
However, because recently 2nd industry rather than
farming is economically gives us more benefit, flood
control to keep flood those overflow becomes important
economical and social issue and throughout the year
water is used for need for it; usual water level
of Imjin river has continually decreased which is
threatening the survival of creatures living under
water here.
Especially the more dam in North Korea are built,
the less water in mid and down stream of Imjin river
has which endangers the lives of many people who
live fishing have been depending on water here due
to decrease of fishes in Imjin river.
Since with its slow flow, Imjin river has a developed
city nearby and the city has a good water traffic
and there are specialities such as yellow swellfish,
mullet, carp, king crab etc, people livingNear the
mouth of Imjin river are supported.
However since the modern times, South and North
are parted and water traffic are stoped; yellow
swell fish, mullet those used to be speciliaties
are catched less due to overfishing and decrease
of inhabitats.
Now we will put together the research of fishes
living in Imjin river to grasp the exact situation
fof fishes decreasing and study about feature of
their living and solution for protecting them. |
